Guideling

Start it, put the phone down, and travel

Guideling tells you about what's coming up on the road ahead, early enough that you can still look. You never have to touch it on the move.

Just in time to look

On the motorway or on foot, the story ends a few seconds before you reach the place, so you can turn your head and see it.

Only what you can see

If a hill or a building is in the way, it stays quiet about what's behind it. You won't be told to look at something that isn't there.

The Guideling map at Emerald Bay. Maggies Peak is ringed in amber and being spoken; Jakes Peak, top left, has its mark struck through.

Quiet when there's nothing to say

A few stories an hour, with long silences between them. It never fills the gap with filler.

Something to say on an empty road

No castle for miles? It talks about the country you're crossing: why the valley looks like that, where the border used to be, who built the road.

The map on an empty stretch of road. The card reads Listening, 44 seconds ago, Emerald Bay State Park.

Works in tunnels and dead zones

It loads the road ahead before you get there, so losing signal doesn't stop it.

Alongside your map and music

Keep Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze. Your music turns down while it talks, and it never talks over a turn.

Yours to tune

Choose how much it talks and what it talks about: history, nature, architecture, food and drink.

Settings: narration language, chattiness set to Normal between Quiet and Rich, and interest toggles for history, nature and landscape, architecture, and food and drink.
